WELCOME to our monthly rundown of some of the coolest events happening in NYC! Each month we at devivre Concierge will trawl the interwebs, to bring you some of the most unique and New-Yorky goings-on about town. Here are our top picks for March:
Sights:
The Frick Collection has a special place in my heart. It was the first place my Grandad took my Nana when she moved to the city in the Forties. I love a small-ish museum that you can explore every inch of and never feel overwhelmed. The special exhibition now through May 14th is Turner's Modern and Ancient Ports: Passages through time which is bound to be epic. Also, it is free on First Fridays 6-9pm and pay-what-you-wish every Sat 11a-1p.
Sounds:
Sneaking in a Sights $ Sounds, The Philharmonia Orchestra of NY's Symphonic Storyboards With Project Hand in Hand looks utterly captivating. As you listen to music by Wagner, Verdi, and Rimsky-Korsakov under maestro Atsushi Yamada, they will show original films on a huge screen to thoroughly immerse you in the experience. Playing Mar 21/22nd at Lincoln Center and then Apr 7/8th at NY City Center (ticket prices start lower at the latter).
Learn:
About New York's history of Tattooing at the New York Historical Society's Tattooed New York through Apr 30th. From its roots in Native American body art all the way into contemporary culture this is sure to be an incredibly colorful exhibition in more ways than one. Highlights include one of the earliest recordings (1706) in Western accounts of a pictograph done by a Seneca warrior representing his tattoos and Thomas Edison's electric pen.
Explore:
The stunning New York Botanical Gardens's annual Orchid Show is on now through Apr 9th. They are celebrating their 15th year and this year the theme is Thailand. If you want to see the gardens in a fun and more exclusive way, check out the evening events where there will be music, traditional dance routines of the Somapa Thai Dance Company & cocktails. They are Sat's: Mar 4, 11, 18, & 25; Apr 1 & 8 & Fri's: Mar 31 (LGBT Night) & April 7.
