May: Treats & Eats in NYC

Now that the weather has cleared up, let's hope that it stays since we have some fun things to get you outside over the next month!

Pig Roast:

May 17th is my older sister's birthday and our mom always celebrated by throwing her a Filipino pig roast (my sister hates pork). Nevertheless, I enjoyed it! Everyone was outside snacking on lechon and playing picnic games. So, when I saw Michael Psilakis was hosting a BK Pig Roast on Friday 5/13, I knew that I had to spread the news: Korean Bo Ssam Style (Kimchi & Bacon Fried Rice, Lettuce, Ginger scallion sauce) or Southern BBQ style (Grits, Collard Greens, Housemade BBQ). Happy Hour Cocktails from 6-7p and live music from Brother Joscephus, described as "Foot-stomping alligator music" by MP Hall, starting at 7p.

BBQ:

Nothing screams 'impending summer' like a cookout. Early next month, June 11th & 12th, Madison Square Park Conservancy is once again hosting The Big Apple Barbecue Block Party in Madison Square Park. The event, which was founded by Danny Meyer, is FREE (!) and will bring together 14 of the country's most kicka** pitmasters from Texas, Mississippi, North Carolina, Illinois, Alabama, and of course, NYC. Although the lineup has yet to be announced, there will also be live music all weekend. Hate waiting in lines? Purchase tickets to avoid the crowds and get shuffled along to the front of every BBQ tent!
