July: Local Events
Summer is officially in full swing in the city and with its warm evenings and vacation-vibes (here's looking at you, three day work week) there's more than ever to do-see-taste-and-hear. In fact, our city has such an incredible summertime wealth of awesome things to do it can almost seem overwhelming. Never fear, the culture mavens + scheduling queens at devivre Concierge have you covered. From free concerts to exquisite cocktails, we've got the deets on this month's must-do goings on (and the tools to make your weekends feel effortlessly fabulous). Want to join in on the fun? Right this way.
Sights:
- One of the most consistently wonderful Summer events every year is Shakespeare in The Park at the open-air Delacorte Theater located in Central Park. The company is about to start their second play of the season; everybody's fave summery fantasy; A Midsummer Night's Dream. Want in on the magic without waiting in line? Let deVivre spare you the hassle and snag you the free-yet-almost-impossible-to-get tickets.
Sounds:
- There are so many great outdoor concerts this month that it's hard to pick just one. The good news? You don't have to! Prospect Park Bandshell is killing it with their lineup this year: this Friday, July 7th Musiq Soulchild/People's Champs are playing for free and Sylvan Esso/Middle Kids are doing a benefit concert on Wed, 26th. Also, Preservation Hall Jazz Band are performing a free lunchtime concert on Thu 20th as part of Metrotech's R&B fest.
Learn:
- On Sat, Jul 29th learn everything there is to know about the Spirits of Mexico! Not ghosts silly! This is not Dia de los Muertos! We're talking about agave-based spirits: Tequila and Mezcal. Let deVivre reserve you a spot at the Apotheke Academy's hands-on mixology and cocktail classes. The extensive expert-level mixing + tasting class also gives you the option of a take-home kit so you can recreate your new libations at home and impress all your friends. Bonus: the hidden, subterranean space tucked off of a Chinatown alley boasts a great dance floor for when, ahem, the spirit moves you.
Explore:
- Sat, Jul 15th is the Tenth Annual City of Water Day and there are dozens of events happening in all the boroughs and NJ on and around the city's waterways. deVivre suggested itinerary: take advantage of a free paddle board lesson at the Waterfront Activity Fair on Governor's Island, followed by the ingenious cardboard kayak races at 2:30p, then onward to Brooklyn Bridge Park for a free classical music concert on the Bargemusic Barge at 4p, finishing off the day with a performance by Gibney Dance Studio 7-9p. If this packed schedule leaves no time for lunch, let deVivre pack you a picnic and bring it to the riverside.
Phew! So much to do, so little time. If you need a little help making the most of your summer (and not, say, wasting precious hours schlepping laundry) let us help make your weekend dreams a reality. After all, we're here to have fun.
