April: Local Events

WELCOME to our monthly rundown of some of the coolest events happening in NYC! Each month we at devivre Concierge will trawl the interwebs, to bring you some of the most unique and New-Yorky goings-on about town. Here are our top picks for April:

Sights:

-Rooftop Films kicks off the season with a series of kid-friendly animated movies on Saturdays in April at their space in Industry City, Brooklyn. My top pick (cough-should have won the Oscar-cough) would be Kubo and The Two Strings on Apr 15th. Doors open at 10am and the film will start at 11am. You can RSVP for free here, but it is first come, first served, so I would just get there early to guarantee entry.

Sounds:

-The Gorillaz are teaming up with Sonos to produce a pop-up "Spirit House" in Brooklyn, (Apr 21-23rd, 12-8p), to promote their upcoming new album Humanz. Spirit House will be an immersive experience where you will get to wander through the Gorillaz virtual home through physical installations and projection mapping technology. You can RSVP here for a chance at guaranteed entree or go early each day and try your luck on the walk up line.

Learn:

-about the art of graffiti (or at least the first steps unless you're a major natural) during a two-hour Brooklyn Graffiti Lesson. You will get a tour of some local art to learn about the history of graffiti, some tips and tricks on how to use an aerosol can and you'll get to collaborate on a mural. At only $30 per person, this seems like a pretty inexpensive way to get outside and do something different now that the weather is finally feeling Spring-like!

Explore:

-a Buffalo Exchange thrift store on Apr 22nd (Earth Day) for their $1 sale. (OK! I know this is a stretch for "exploring", but I couldn't leave it out ;) They all open at 11am and I would expect lines around blocks, so grab a coffee, breakfast bagel, and a good book to get a spot at the front of the line, because I'd expect them to sell out of all the good stuff pretty early in the day. This year their proceeds will go to the Humane Society.
