November: Local Events
WELCOME to our monthly rundown of some of the coolest events happening in NYC! Each month we at devivre Concierge will trawl the interwebs, to bring you some of the most unique and New Yorky goings-on about town. Here are our top picks for October:
Sights:
Check out the Canstruction exhibition by the Society for Design Administration from Nov 3rd-16th from 10am-6pm at 230 Vesey Street. Every year designers, architects engineers etc compete to come up with the most amazing and crazy designs and constructions made entirely of cans of food. At the end of the exhibition, all the cans are donated to City Harvest.
Sounds:
If you've never heard of William Fitzsimmons, do yourself a favor and get tickets to his show at Poisson Rouge on Nov 28th, 7pm with Laura Burhenn (of The Mynabirds). He writes beautiful heart-wrenching songs and sings them with the voice of an angel while looking not at all like an angel. Unless angels have ginormous beards! Then he looks exactly like an angel. Anyway here's a taste from the you tubes.
Learn:
Learn about Latin American Culture at the 11th Annual Latin American Cultural Week, Nov 5th-13th in locations all over the city. There will be presentations of music, dance, film, theater, literature, visual and performing arts from or influenced by the diverse cultures of Latin America. Check out the Opening Night Gala on Nov 5th, 7pm-2am for an idea of what to look out for during the festival.
Explore:
Participate in this year's annual Cranksgiving! A nationwide event which is a fun food drive, combined with a scavenger hunt and a bike ride. New York's event supports the Bowery Mission. All you have to do is show up at Hudson Yards (East side of 11th Ave between 34th & 35th St) on Sat, Nov 19th at 1pm to register. The ride begins at 2pm. Just make sure to have $20, a bag and your bike lock with you.
