December: Local Events

WELCOME to our monthly rundown of some of the coolest events happening in NYC! Each month we at devivre Concierge will trawl the interwebs, to bring you some of the most unique and New-Yorky goings-on about town. Here are our top picks for December:

Sights:

The SVA Theater at 333 West 23rd Street is showing 4 free screenings on Sat, Dec 17th. You can see Hook, Rocky, Little Shop of Horrors &/or Scream. The theater will open approx 45 mins before the screening and admission will be on a first come, first served basis. It is 25 years since Hook was first released! You can't beat seeing it on a big screen!

Sounds:

Bring a music-making device (boombox preferred), download the music and show up to Washington Square Park on Sun, Dec 18th at 5:45pm for the 25th annual presentation of Phil Kline's Unsilent Night. The composer will hand out some vintage boomboxes and tapes and CD's to participants and then will lead a massive chorus to Thompkins Square Park.

Learn:

Learn how to make music all over the city at the 6th annual Make Music Winter on Wed, Dec 21st. There are some events where you just need to show up ready to sing or with free hands. Other events require you to bring an instrument, download something in advance or go to a practice beforehand. It's free.99 and everyone can participate.

Explore:

Explore the Winter Village at Bryant Park. There are so many kiosks with all kinds of unique & local present ideas. This is also where the only free Ice-Skating rink in the city is (as long as you have your own skates). If skating isn't your thing, it's a lovely place to grab a cup of hot chocolate from Max Brenner and watch skaters of all levels skate and try not to fall on their buts.

Happy Holidays!
